Some love stories start with a single moment—a glance, a spark, an immediate this is it. Blair and Zach’s? It was a slow build. A series of almosts. A collection of moments that, at the time, didn’t seem like much at all. A backyard party in high school. A quick hello. A few years of missed timing. And then—finally—a night at Baker’s St. Pub (Unofficial Sponsor of This Love Story) where everything just fell into place. No grand gestures. No love-at-first-sight moment. Just two people who kept crossing paths—until one day, they both decided to stop walking away. And once they did? That was it.

A backyard party at Zach’s house. Blair showed up with her bridesmaid, wandered into the party, and spotted Zach. He seemed… interesting. Mysterious. Maybe even her type. Then he opened his mouth. And that was that. Sarcastic. A little cold. Not particularly concerned with making an impression. They exchanged a quick hello, and that was about it. No instant connection. No moment of realization. Just two people who met and immediately moved on.

The Night Everything Shifted
Another night out. Another run-in with Zach.
By now, Blair had a solid opinion of him. Funny? Sure. But also a little too into his own humor.
And yet… something was different.
They ended up at Baker’s St. Pub with friends, and for the first time, Zach wasn’t just the sarcastic guy in the group—he was actually fun. Not in a Wow, I think I like this guy way. More in a Wow, he’s actually not that bad way.
For the first time, he wasn’t just making jokes—he was making an effort. And, against her better judgment, Blair kind of liked it.

The Party That Wasn't Supposed to Happen
By December, Blair was home for Christmas break and hosting a party. And in true Blair fashion, she invited Zach… after the party had already ended.
Strategic? Spontaneous? Who’s to say?
Either way, he showed up.
And that night, they actually talked.
No group distractions, no surface-level small talk—just an actual, real conversation that lasted hours. They went back and forth on everything—their lives, their plans, their completely opposite opinions on football. They gave each other a hard time, and at some point, the dynamic shifted.
For the first time, neither of them wanted the conversation to end.

A Text That Changed Everything
The last night of winter break.
Blair and Zach had spent weeks hanging out, driving back and forth, staying up way too late on the phone. But now? It was time to pack up—Zach to TCU, Blair to UT.
They both knew something was happening here. But were they actually about to do long distance? That was the big question. They talked about it, overthought it, and ultimately landed on... nothing. No decision. No official plan. Just a vague, we’ll see what happens.
Then, the next morning—before Zach even had time to process—his phone lit up.
"Good morning! :)"
No follow-up. No context. Just Blair, casually deciding for both of them that long distance was, in fact, happening.
And that was that.

Long-Distance, Poor Decisions & A Fake Twitch Account
For a while, Blair and Zach had the long-distance thing down to a science. Every weekend, one of them would make the trek up or down I-35, rotating between whose turn it was to suffer through Dallas traffic. When they weren’t on the road, they were on FaceTime—constantly.
And then, in what can only be described as a lapse in judgment, Blair took things a step further. She started watching Zach’s X-Box live streams. Willingly. Even worse? She and her friends created a fake Twitch account just to comment on them.
(She would like to clarify that she would never, under any circumstances, do this now.)
But hey, long-distance will make you do things. The late-night FaceTimes, the weekend countdowns—it all just worked.
And then, just when they had it figured out… the world shut down.

Quarantined: The Ultimate Compatibility Test
Then, the world hit pause. Enter: the global pandemic.
What was supposed to be a long-distance relationship turned into no distance at all. No weekend countdowns. No quick visits. Just them, side by side, day after day—navigating lockdown life together. A true relationship trial by fire.
And somehow, it just worked.
Zach learned that Blair’s version of “unwinding” involved aggressively binge-listening to Bobby Football podcasts, mentally preparing for a UT season that was still months away—because, apparently, hope is a full-time job. Blair, in turn, discovered that, when faced with no escape, Zach could, in fact, develop strong opinions on Bravo reality TV. (Southern Charm may or may not have changed him.)
For months, it was just them in their own little world. And when life finally picked back up, one thing was clear: this wasn’t just a phase, or a stretch of time they’d look back on.
It was the moment they realized they never wanted to go back to life without each other.

The Cutest Case of Nerves Ever
By March, Zach had seen Blair in just about every scenario—almost. He survived lockdown, sat through hours of UT is back debates, and watched her order Chick-fil-A with the confidence of someone who considered it a personality trait. And yet, he still wanted to date her.
So, on March 31, 2020, Zach decided to make it official. He took Blair to Memorial Park, where everything was calm—except him.
He was nervous. Like, weirdly nervous. Blair had never seen him like this before, which, of course, she found hilarious.
But he got the words out (eventually). She said yes. And just like that, they were a thing.

Blair and Zach’s love story wasn't about a single, sweeping moment—it was a collection of them. A series of almosts that, looking back, were never really almosts at all.
It’s in the way Zach always looks out for Blair—even in the small ways. The way he somehow always knows where her misplaced things are before she even realizes they're missing. The way he carries all her bags without question. The way he never lets her leave without making sure she has everything she needs.
It’s in the way Blair pushes Zach out of his comfort zone. The way she brings energy and spontaneity into his world. The way she makes him laugh when he’s being just a little too serious. The way she balances out his logic with a little bit of chaos.
It’s in the effortless way they fit together. It wasn't love at first sight. But it was always them. Even when they didn’t realize it. And now, five years later, they're getting married—ready to build a life full of banter, late-night takeout, competitive game nights, and an endless back-and-forth over which football team actually reigns supreme.
